BIOGRAPHY:
David Sackschewsky is the Director of Choirs at Northwest High School in Grand Island, Nebraska where he conducts 7 choirs with over 300 students. He also teaches Musical Theater Coaching, Drama, and oversees the private voice studios of over 100 students with five voice teachers. Under his direction the Northwest Concert Choirs and Children’s Choir have performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City (2000, 2005, 2010), the Lincoln Center in New York City (2012), Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco (2004),The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C (2007), Chicago Symphony Hall (2013), The Lincoln Center (Titantic the Musical, 2014) and for the Nebraska Music Educators Fall Convention (2003, 2007).
Here is a brief list of Mr. “Shack’s” accomplishments:
2000: Outstanding Young Choral Director of the Year (NCDA)
2002: Outstanding Young Music Educator of the Year (NMEA)
2004: Filmed for a web-based teaching site: Educational Virtual Mentor
2006: Named “Fine Art Educator of the Year” Moonshell Arts Award-Central Nebraska
2010: Outstanding Music Educator of the Year (guess, no longer young; NMEA)
2010: Outstanding Choral Director of the Year, (again,no longer young; NCDA)
2010: Named National “Teacher of Note” in Choral Director Magazine
2010: Named “Teacher of the Year”; Kim West-Dinsdale Award
2012: University of Nebraska-Kearney “Outstanding Alumni Award”
He and his wife Julie are the founders of the Great Plains Children’s Choir, a 50 voice children’s choir in central Nebraska. He is the co-author of “THE MUSIC TEACHER’S FIRST-AID KIT”, and co-founder of the website “ChoralStrategies.com”. He is married to Julie, a middle school choral director, and father of 5 year old twin girls (God does have a sense of humor), and 8 year old son Colson, who loves the 49rs!!.
